Goedenavond iedereen. Boris here, bringing you news from Belgium’s national final, Eurosong. Tonight featured the first “showcase” as one would call it, where the first 4 participating acts present their songs without staging.
The purpose of this show is to introduce the songs with live vocals, and to get to know the four participating artists. The full acts -with the vision for Basel- will be premiered during the Final on the 1st of February.
Tonight’s showcase featured the songs from Grace, LEEZ, Le Manou and LENN.
Grace sings “Pull up”

Grace Khuabi rose to prominence as the winner of The Voice van Vlaanderen in 2021 and her follow-up début single “Freedom” was met with positive critical acclaim. The singer of Congolese ancestry hopes to represent Belgium with the “dance-able” uptempo number “Pull up”.
Grace, who cited 2010 French Eurovision act Jessy Matador – another singer with Congolese roots- as one of her role models, hopes to in turn be a role model if she were to win the Belgian ticket for the Eurovision Song Contest.
Her song, “Pull up” is described as a dynamic dance anthem with a message of being yourself, and sticking to your values. The song features lyrics in Lingala, a nod to Grace’s ethnic heritage:

Leez brings “Perfectly imperfect”

LEEZ is the stage name of Lisa Van Rossem, an indie pop singer from Duffel. Lisa has a long history with the Song Contest, having attempted participation for the 2005 Junior Contest with “Een Dagje Uit”. She, like Grace, is a The Voice alumnus, having participated in the 2016 Flemish edition where she made the Live Shows.
Lisa is the sister of the more famous Flemish singer Joris Van Rossem (stagename: Metejoor). She was one of his main backing vocalists, before taking the plunge as a solo artist in 2023: With moderate successes, as her singles “Who Will Be There (It’s Me)” and “Toxic Lullaby”, both charted and were featured in Tien Om Te Zien, a popular musical programme.
Now she’s ready to further emerge from the shadows by participating for Belgium in the Eurovision Song Contest. Her song, “Perfectly imperfect” is a pop ballad about reconciling differences within a relationship, accepting each others “perfect imperfections”.

Le Manou serves “Fille à papa”

“Le Manou” is the alias of Manou Maerten, a DJ and electropop composer from Durbuy. Born to a Flemish father and Dutch mother, she currently owns a small music studio in Durbuy. As a full-time resident of Wallonia, most of Manou’s compositions are performed in French.
Manou’s first brush with Eurovision was – as with LEEZ – an early attempt to represent Belgium in the Junior Eurovision. Manou came very close in the 2009 preselection, placing second to Laura Omloop’s “Zo Verliefd”. Since then, she continued participating in talent shows (such as “Zo Is Er Maar Één”) and yes, La Voix Belgique, the Walloon variation of The Voice.
After graduating with a master’s degree in Music Production, she decided to launch her personal solo project under the stage name “Le Manou”. Her Eurovision song, “Fille à papa” (Daddy’s Girl) is a described as a fun pastiche of nepotism, set to an upbeat electro-pop track.

LENN performs “Air balloon”

The final contestant to showcase their song tonight is Len Neefs, a starting artist from Bonheiden. Len is the son of Günther Neefs, who himself is the song of Louis Neefs, the Belgian participant in the 1967 and 1969 Eurovision Song Contests.
Len has a minimum of on-stage experience, having played the title role in the Flemish language version of the musical Oliver. Most of his musical experience up to this point comes from performing covers on social media.
Len’s song for Eurovision is therefore his début single: “Air Balloon”, which he describes as a radio-friendly feel good anthem.

In addition to the showcases, the programme featured covers from each of tonight’s participating artists. The covers were as follow:
- Grace – “Voilá” (France 2021)
- LEEZ – “Heroes” (Sweden 2015)
- Le Manou – “J’aime la vie” (Belgium 1986)
- Lenn – “Ik heb zorgen” & “Jennifer Jennings” (Belgium 1967 & 1969)
Next week, the four remaining artists will showcase their songs under the same format. Stay tuned for the rundown on Mentissa, Red Sebastian, Stefanie Callebaut and Jelle Van Dael later this week!
