In a break from tradition, albeit in extraordinary circumstances, it seems that Albania’s national selection for Eurovision and one of the nation’s traditional festivals will move from its usual December timeslot, according to the news site Lajmi.net.

Following the devastating earthquakes that hit the Balkan nation in November, the national broadcaster RTSH looks set to announce the move of Festivali i Këngës from the previous Christmas-time dates to the new dates of January 22nd, 23rd and 25th, just over a month later than originally planned. Of course, in such times of adversity, more important measures take priority.

Lajmi.net reports that the decision has not been made official, nor has anything been communicated to production staff at the Albanian network, but a confirmation either way is set to be made shortly.

Albania traditionally kick off the Eurovision selection season with their December showpiece, but with this news it seems – understandably – that we may have to wait slightly longer for our first selection show for Rotterdam.

Once again, the staff of ESC United wish all the best to Albania and its people and share our thoughts and best wishes with all those affected by the November earthquakes.
