As Norway’s Melodi Grand Prix (MGP) unfolds, artists from across the country are stepping onto the stage, each hoping to represent Norway at Eurovision. Among them is Nora Jabri, a singer-songwriter whose entry, “Sulale,” is a deeply personal blend of her Arabic and Norwegian heritage. We spoke with her about the inspiration behind the song, her dreams of taking the Eurovision stage, and what drives her as an artist.

“My song ‘Sulale’ is inspired by my Arabic and Norwegian background. It means ‘bloodline’ in Arabic, and it’s a dialogue between my father and me. It represents love, unity, and different cultures. I want people to become a part of my universe so we can create magic together.”

More than anything, she hopes her live performance will allow audiences to connect with the emotions behind the song.

“For those three minutes, I just want people to not worry about life or anything else. I want them to find joy in the song and feel the love it represents.”

Competing in MGP is a major opportunity, but what would it mean for her to take the stage at Eurovision?

“It would definitely mean a lot! Not only for me, but for all the people with different cultures and backgrounds that I feel my song represents. It would be an absolute honor if that happened, for so many reasons.”

Her artistry blends powerful vocal delivery with raw, emotional storytelling—something that has been evident in her journey as a musician.

Like many artists, Nora has drawn inspiration from musical legends.

“Many of my idols, such as Aretha Franklin and Celine Dion, have inspired me with their music. It’s always been motivating to think that one day, I might influence people the way they have influenced me.”

But beyond these icons, it’s her family who has provided unwavering support.

“They’ve always had my back and cheered me on. I think there’s just an inner feeling of something bigger than myself that keeps me motivated to work and to sing. Music is a universal language, and that is really precious.”

When she’s not singing or writing music, Nora finds another form of expression—running.

“I LOVE to run. Anytime I can, I put on my running shoes and run as far as I can out of the city and into the woods. Running is my kind of meditation—it’s where I can focus and organize my thoughts. I love nature; it’s so peaceful.”

Every artist has their own way of getting into the right mindset before taking the stage, and for Nora, music plays a big role.

“I have two songs that I listen to. If I need to go into fight mode and think of myself as the best athlete-singer, I listen to ‘Lose Yourself’ by Eminem. If I need a REAL confidence boost, I always listen to ‘Run The World’ by Beyoncé. I may have to listen to both in the MGP finale—just to set my mood, haha!”

As she prepares for her moment at Melodi Grand Prix, Nora Jabri is ready to share her story and music with the world. Whether she advances to Eurovision or not, her passion and talent are sure to make a lasting impact.
