Following a week of voting, ‘Aiko’ with the song ‘Pedestal’ has been revealed as the winner of ESCZ 2024 and will represent Czechia at the Eurovision Song Contest 2024 in Malmö, Sweden. The announcement was made at 08.15 CET this morning.
“Pedestal” is written by Alena Shirmanová and Steven Ansell.
Selection Process
On Monday 4 December, 7 acts competed to fly the Czech flag at Eurovision. The acts where:
- Aiko – “Pedestal”
- Elly – “The Angel’s Share”
- Gianna Lei – “Starlet”
- Lenny – “Good Enough”
- MYDY – “Red Flag Parade”
- Tom Sean – “Dopamine Overdose”
- Tomas Robi – “Out of My Mind”
ESCZ 2024’s winner was selected via 70% international voting and 30% Czech public voting. The public were able to vote via the official Eurovision app from 4 December until voting closed on 11 December at 23:59 CET. This morning we heard that after a week of voting, Aiko is the one who’s going to fly the Czech flag at Eurovision.
Fellow contender Elly secured the runner-up spot, with the band Mydy claiming third. Notably, Tom Sean and Lenny followed closely in the rankings.
Kryštof Šámal, Czechia’s Head of Delegation, shared his excitement:
‘This year, we witnessed an incredible and diverse cast of finalists, leading to a dynamic evolution in the race for victory. With a total of 98,000 votes received, each stage of the last week presented a different winner almost every two days.
We are excited to start working with Aiko to deliver a brilliant performance, taking advantage of the substantial resources Eurovision provides and allowing for ample preparation time. I am confident that Czechia will be proud of the outcome.
